About Gestalt Therapy
Gestalt therapy was founded in the 1940’s by Fritz and Laura Perls. It was a radical shift away from Psychoanalysis and its medical model for mental health that tries to define a patient’s problem.
The word ‘Gestalt’ is a German term that loosely means ’whole’. Gestalt therapy understands each person as a unique blend of the mind, emotions, physical body, and soul. Further to this, it also appreciates how who you are in any moment is shaped by the world around you. That the context of your life matters.
Gestalt therapy supports lifelong growth and change through raising awareness of who you are right here, right now, during the session. Through awareness of your ‘self in context’, change can occur.
In this way, Gestalt Therapy is a powerful tool for helping you understand yourself, complete ‘unfinished business’, and evolve from limiting self-narratives.
